Hi. Could an air conditioner unit left running non-stop for more than 4 days cause any hazards?

It belongs to the neighbor who lives above my floor and it has been rattling away for days (it's an old model, I reckon), yet the apartment has not been occupied for months. I'm afraid the owner may have left home without switching it off during one of his quarterly visits.
